As of July 31, 2020, the South Carolina Department of Education mandated: "Students and staff in South Carolina public schools must wear a face-covering upon entering a school building, moving through hallways, during carpool/bus drop off or pick up, and when social distancing is not possible or optimal. Student face coverings may be removed upon teacher or administrator direction while in the classroom or during special activities outside the classroom." This mandate follows our mask policy stated by Mrs. Hipp in the superintendent update last week. The battle has begun! First and second graders are competing in Battle of the Books this week. Students have read 10 books that have been nominated for the SC Book Award. They are working in groups to answer questions in a bracketed tournament to determine a champion. Good luck to our first and second graders!

On Tuesday, the caroling schedule will be first grade at 9:45 am, K4 at 11:15 am, 3rd grade at 12:30 pm, and 5th grade at 2:00 pm. On Wednesday, the caroling schedule will be second grade at 10:30 am, K5 at 11:15 am, and 4th grade at 1:15 pm.
We have a lot going on at Flat Rock this week. We will have caroling in the commons area on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday is also Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. Thursday is PJ day. Good Hope Presbyterian Church recently donated $533.00 to the Weekend Snackpack Program. This donation was matched by an anonymous donor and will benefit the students of Flat Rock and Iva Elementary! Starr Baptist Church also supplies approximately 20 snackpacks each week to the students of Starr Elementary. Anderson Three is blessed and truly thankful for the love and support of our schools from the Starr and Iva communities.

K4 and K5 will be rescheduled for Thursday, December 13th at 9:00 A.M. The rest of second grade and third grade will have Santa’s workshop tomorrow. Fourth and fifth grade will have Santa’s workshop on Wednesday.

WYFF has incorrectly stated that all Anderson County districts are closed tomorrow. At this time, all Anderson County districts are open except Anderson 5. The other districts, including Anderson 3, plan to be on regular schedule tomorrow. The superintendents continue to monitor weather conditions and will have a conference call Thursday morning at 5 a.m. Any changes based on weather conditions will be announced after that call.

Mrs. Christenbury's class is using their STEAM skills to make sweet treats for the faculty and staff at Flat Rock Elementary. They plan to use their adaptive equipment to make many different things this school year. Thanks to Mrs. Lollis and Michelin for their donations that enable our class to practice these life skills.
We are anxiously awaiting Monday morning when our sweet students return to Flat Rock! In the meantime, go check out our video posted on both our new and old facebook pages. We would love to have 10,000 views before school on Monday morning!
Flat Rock Elementary will host Meet the Teacher tomorrow, August 14 from 4 to 6 pm. If you did not attend registration, you will need to bring proof of residency or notarized affidavit. We look forward to seeing all of you.
