Ms. Bannister has joined the Starr-Iva Middle School Special Education Department as a Learning Lab Teacher. Rebecca is a Lander University graduate with a bachelor's in Elementary education. She is also a 2020 graduate of Crescent High School and has been in the Starr-Iva community her whole life. She is engaged to Ryan Cross, and they have a wedding planned for February 2025.

Due to the anticipated weather impacts of Hurricane Helene, Anderson 3 will be observing an ๐๐๐๐๐ง๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ on ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ฎ, ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฉ๐๐ข๐๐๐ง ๐ค๐ฉ.
Individual schools and teachers will communicate eLearning assignments and expectations as well as any changes to afterschool activities.
Ms. Week's 1st Graders at Iva Elementary flexed their writing skills and muscles during their recent "Handwriting Boot Camp!" Students enjoyed fun handwriting with built-in boot campy style activities such as push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, and more!๐ช๐ชโ๏ธ
Andy McDonald from the Michelin US 10 Plant in Starr presented Starr Elementary with $2,500, sponsoring their Back to School Bash. Starr fed its families pizza, chips, popsicles, and drinks and provided fun activities for the students to participate in (face painting, bouncy house and obstacle course, bubbles and chalk, etc.).

Mrs. Melancon's Environmental Science students are ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ in on science! From tiny cells to creepy crawlies like spiders, they mastered the microscope and got a close-up look at the wonders of science. ๐ฌ๐ท๏ธ๐
๐งช 6th graders at Starr-Iva Middle had a blast in the science lab with the "Saving Fred" activity! ๐ Teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity were in full swing as students worked together to save Fred the worm using only paperclipsโno hands allowed! ๐ Science is not just about learning facts; it's about thinking critically and working as a team to solve problems.๐ฌ #6thGradeScience #HandsOnLearning #SavingFred

Ms. Riddle has joined the Crescent High School English Department, teaching English 1 & 2. She graduated from Erskine College and came to Anderson 3 from Northside Middle School in Greenwood, where she taught for two years. Julia grew up in the Iva area and considers Iva her home. She is excited to be at Crescent this year and looks forward to helping students grow. ๐๐

During our 2024 Opening Ceremony, Mrs. Kathy Hipp, our District Superintendent, was recognized for her 35 years of service to Anderson 3. Tammy Boggs and Sherri Phillips are also at the top of our service leader board, each with 30 years of experience.

๐ Crescent Teacher Cadets are honing their read-aloud skills!๐
After a lesson on best practices from Mrs. Krista Gray, Flat Rock Elementary's Librarian, the cadets visited classrooms where they read stories to the kindergarten through 2nd grade classes. They did a fantastic job interacting with Flat Rock students!๐๐ #TigersTeach #TeacherCadets
Our local Electrolux plant recently donated dozens of fully supplied backpacks and some supplies for our teachers! They also donated 150 boxes of bandaids that were distributed to our nurses and classrooms. ๐ฉน๐โ๏ธ

Mrs. Upton, our Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator, recently spoke to our middle schoolers about not staying in the "Pee Pool" or kiddie pool! ๐คฟ๐
As students transition to middle school, it is crucial for them not to be scared to fail by embracing "hard things." Upton reminded them that if they do fail, they should fail forward by getting back up again. We loved hearing this positive message, reinforcing their self-confidence! ๐

Welcome, Mrs. Christy Upton! ๐
Mrs. Upton has joined our District Office Team as our District Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator. Christy previously served the district through the Department of Mental Health as a school-based counselor.
Christy is married to Rev. Jim Upton, the student pastor at Covenant Baptist Church in Anderson. Together, they have been serving students for over 35 years. Christy has lived in the Anderson area for over 35 years, where she and her husband have raised three sons, Drew, Noah, and Micah.
We are excited to have Mrs. Upton as a permanent member of our #A3Team! ๐ฅณ ๐
